About York County's Mock Trial Competition

The York County Mock Trial Competition is part of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Statewide Mock Trial Competition. In York, the Mock Trial Competition is coordinated by the York Bar Association's Young Lawyer's Division.

This year's Mock Trial Case is a criminal case: Commonwealth of Pennsylvania vs. Jaden Sinclair.

For the Mock Trial Competition Rules and all the case materials, please go to the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Mock Trial web site.

The Mock Trial competition is made up of three student attorneys on each side, as well as two student witnesses for each team. Each team presents opening and closing statements, and questions witnesses on their own team, as well as cross examining witnesses on the other team. Each team needs to learn and understand the rules of evidence, how to make objections and enter exhibits, as well as the art of persuasion.

Each team works with a local York County attorney and a teacher from their school to assist, but the bulk of the work is done by the students themselves who all work very hard to present their cases. The team who finishes in first place moves on to the regional mock trial championships.

If you are interested in being a volunteer juror, please contact the 2008 Mock Trial Coordinator, Carolyn Pugh, Esquire
